Barbizon School, Carl Larsson, Crayfish, July, Stockholm, Sweden, Tools, WordPress

It is the last day in July.  Some of you enjoyed Ett Hem, so I thought I would close the month by sending you pictures that belong to Carl Larsson’s Ett Hem collection.

The picture featured above is entitled Crayfishing (1897) and the picture to your left, October (1883).

Carl Larsson had been influenced by the Barbizon painters plein air (out in the open) school.  Both these pictures depict life outdoors.

Peter Paul Rubens (28 June 1577 – 30 May 1640)

Peter Paul Rubens, Portrait of a Young Girl, 1615-16

One can no longer embed the video featuring Rubens pictures. However, one can click on the link I have put at the bottom of this page. Just click on Peter Paul Rubens.

It is such a beautiful presentation. A gift from God to us mortals.

The music is Vivaldi’s music, his Concerto for Two Flutes, Op. 47, No. 2, Largo. Vivaldi was a priest who had red hair: he was the Red Priest. The largo. Usually the second movement of a concerto is a slow tempo. Here we have a largo, which is a slow tempo.  The third or last movement has a faster tempo. The musicians who are performing Vivaldi’s music are the Arcangelos Chamber Ensemble and the video was assembled to help people concentrate.

Concentrate.  For some, maybe.  But not quite if you go into a spell of ecstasy because the music is heavenly.  Music is very powerful and can therefore be therapeutic, etc. I concentrate, but on the music and the pictures.

The fusion of art and music in the privacy of one’s home is one of the internet’s finest features.

As a former university teacher, I enjoy preparing informative blogs. It takes time and effort, especially when you have problems operating machines. I used to leave the doors to my house unlocked for fear I would not be able to get back in. Keys do not always work very well. So think of me using a computer.

The effort. Do not worry. What about those persons who cannot afford to attend a university or those persons, sometimes older persons, who want to remember.

Enjoy.

Alex Colville, Canada, Colville, Florence, New Brunswick, Rome, Tools, WordPress

Someone wrote to me and pointed out that, in my blog on Alex Colville, I had included a photograph that was not a photograph of Mr Colville.

I have lost that person’s comment, but did edit my blog accordingly.

So thank you, in my name, and also on behalf of WordPress.

My best regards to all my faithful readers.

Micheline

Still Life with Daisies, the News & Answers to your Questions

“Still life with Daisies” or “Marguerites”
Marc-Aurèle de Foy Suzor-Coté (1869 – 1937)

 12 Mendelssohn Lieder ohne Worte, Op.30 – No. 6. Allegretto in F sharp minor ‘Venetian Gondola Song’ (click on the title to hear the music)

I would like to be able to say that I am the artist who made the above painting, but it would be a lie.  This is one of Suzor-Coté’s paintings.  I consider it a privilege to be able to see flowers so beautifully depicted.

The United States: The Etch-a-Sketch Day

The Etch-a-Sketch day (click to see the story)

Today was a special day in the history of the United States.  Americans were made to realize, albeit inadvertently, that the person who will oppose President Obama in the November election might not have become the leader of his party by telling the truth.  I knew this but, suddenly, so does every body else.

Answering Questions

I have been receiving Questions and cannot answer each of them.  So here are, to the best of my knowledge, a few right answers:

  • one does not need to know HTML to write a post or blog;
  • the platform I use is WordPress.com;
  • blogging does not have to be expensive: in fact, it can be free;
  • blogging can be very demanding, depending on one’s goal;
  • there may be “white” pages, because the administrator is updating her blog;
  • I do not know how to keep hackers away;
  • one may quote elements of my blogs, provided one acknowledges one’s source.

I hope the above is fairly comprehensive.  Where technical issues are concerned, I am occasionally at a loss, but I think I am slowly making progress.

But let us focus on Suzor-Coté’s Still life with Daisies and these Apples.
