This humble cottage could be a good home, except that I do not see windows. Even a humble cottage needs windows so one can sit indoors while admiring the view. I would use the row-boat to go up and down the river. Picnics in the summer and skating in the winter.
Today is Bastille Day, the French national holiday. So Happy Bastille Day to the French. The French Revolution fascinates me. The Ancien Régime was destroyed and thousands of innocent people were guillotined. But France rebuilt.
Literally, it means “flamingo,” and it has profound roots in Spanish and Romanian culture(Rromane dźene), not to mention its probable Arabic origins. It necessitates consummate artistry, whether it be music (toque), dance (baile), song (cante), a mixture of dance and music, rhythm (compás), mode (Phrygian), etc.“On November 16, 2010, UNESCO declared Flamenco one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.” (Wikipedia)
Fido tells me that one is never too late with the news because it is forever updated. As soon as an event takes place, the computer gets the necessary information.
Bonjour, says Fido
It’s a beautiful day. It may be a little too warm during the afternoon, but at the moment we are enjoying the best weather summer can bring. I did not get up late, but first finished a blog featuring one of a group of artists I have discovered. Many use chalk and water, as did Barroci.
Bonjour, says Fido
In Quebec, things are currently quite peaceful, but not altogether. At the moment, Québécois are preparing to celebrate la Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Quebec’s feast day and an equinoctial point. There will be fireworks on Sherbrooke’s Lac-des-Nations.
Good morning everyone. I got up a little late, but we might still be able to see the headlines.
In my post on Séraphin the miser, I forgot to tell you that he has his wife buried in a box that is too small for her. And he will not allow her to have children. That would be too expensive.
For the last three days,Menaud, maître-draveurhas been on my mind. It’s a novel I taught in one of my courses on French-Canadian/Quebec literature. I remember asking my students how they would feel if someone entered their house and started using it as if it were their house. They always answered that this would be unacceptable to them. I did not comment. They did.
That mountain is our mountain, our global mountain.
The News
In this regard, I have updated our newspaper links for those of you who read newspapers. I should report that, according to Montreal‘s La Presse, the Montreal Police is sending to the Government of Quebec a bill totalling at least 10 million dollars, in overtime. How unconscionable on the part of the Parti québécois to inflict so harsh a penalty on the people.
Most people have yet to realize that the students were used by the Parti Québécois. There will no doubt be an election and I believe that it will take place in less than three months from now. That too will be very costly. Matters were fine as they were.
In the dossier we are currently following, I still believe that it is not possible for a small raise in tuition fees to have unleashed the demonstrations that have plagued us for months.
Yesterday, in partial provincial elections held in two ridings, the Parti québécois (PQ) gained a traditionally liberal seat (Argenteuil). However the Parti libéral québécois (PLQ) won in LaFontaine.
My blog on Menaud, maître-draveur is nearly ready, but there have been little disruptions to my daily life and highly-prized serenity. By the way, a draveur is a river driver. He walks on the logs. It’s very dangerous.
This is a sunny Sunday morning. I believe yesterday’s news were more interesting, including the late edition. However, this is the latest edition. All seems relatively quiet in Montreal. This is Montreal’s Grand Prix weekend. The police has secured all it could secure.
