I apologize for the delay.
An Incident
It all started when my telephone rang in the middle of the night. Someone was at the main door to the building asking me to unlock the door. He said he was delivering groceries. I let him in. It then occurred to me that he could be an intruder and that he could harm one of my neighbours. If so, it would be my fault. I dialed 9-1-1. Two police officers, a man, and a woman came to my door. I told them that I had foolishly let someone into the building and asked them to check the corridors. They didn’t check the corridors. I also told them that persons did ring the door to my apartment occasionally and then disappeared. But matters were different. This time, I had let a person enter the building.
They asked several questions, reassured me, and left. The building was quiet. The next morning, I realized that one of my neighbours had played a joke on me. Who else would know that my groceries are delivered and by whom? Later in the day, I phoned the police and spoke with a person who knew about this incident. I said that, in my opinion, a neighbour had played a joke on me. The gentleman wanted to know how I felt. I was fine. My neighbours were not the target, I was the target.
I have since wondered whether this incident is related to Covid-19. I have been inside my apartment, alone, for a year. However, someone delivers groceries once a week.
The Covid-19 Vaccine
I did leave the apartment two days ago. On Tuesday I received a letter from the government informing me personally that the vaccination programme had begun and that all I had to do was telephone the number I was given or go online to make an appointment. I dialed the telephone number and was vaccinated the following day. Covid-19 is so aggressive that all Canadians will be vaccinated before June 24, the first injection, if AstraZeneca is used. That goal is realistic for Quebec. The team is working so efficiently that several hundred persons are vaccinated in a matter of hours. The government hired a small army.
After the injection, one sits for 15 minutes and, if all goes well, one disinfects one’s hands and goes home. A gentleman called a cab for me. He made me sit comfortably while I waited and he helped me get into the cab safely.
The AstraZeneca vaccine was used. My mouth was very dry after the injection, but there were bottles of water. I was given water. I was not otherwise affected.
Long Covid
The Washington Post reports that many victims of Covid-19 who have been cured are not able to return to a normal life. I suspected this would happen. I caught the H1N1 virus in early February 1976. It triggered Myalgic Encephalomyelitis which did not relent, except for very brief periods, for forty-four years. ME ended when Covid-19 began. Long-Covid patients are vaccinated and it is reported that many patients start feeling better. Do not look upon them as malingerers.
Would that awareness of complications had been present in 1976! I could handle a normal workload by going to bed early and living cautiously. But my workload grew to include too many areas of literature, and the creation of language lab components. I fell to exhaustion and was not replaced, which shouldn’t have happened. I was then maneuvered into selling my house and leaving Nova Scotia. Two years later, I was fooled into accepting an arrangement that ended my tenure without my realizing it. I still ache.
Conclusion
Let’s just say that Covid-19 has been a curse, but that the government vaccination programme is very rapid. I have not experienced adverse effects. As for my neighbours, I sent management a letter they will never forget.
Love to everyone 💕

I’m glad that you were able to get your vaccine. Hopefully as more of the population does the same that things will continue to open more while still taking safety precautions. In speaking with family in your area the past few days most will be first round vaccinated in the next 2 weeks.
Cheers – mark

Thousands have been vaccinated and everyone will receive a personal letter. I thought getting a vaccine would be difficult. It was so easy. They’re walking everyone through the process. I believe the rate of infection will start going down.
Cheers to you too. Micheline

I am glad you were able to get vaccinated, dear Micheline, but I am concerned about your intruder’s incident. I hope it does not repeat!
Thank you for Gershwin and the delightful period-appropriate images.
Be well and stay safe,

Thank you, my dear. I believe my neighbours will stop playing jokes. I think the police figured everything out and contacted the management. I was afraid I had allowed an intruder to enter the building, which one cannot do.
Yes, I’ve been vaccinated. The country is on a mission. I love Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein’s rendition of Rhapsody in Blue is exceptional. Despite the Spanish flu, the world recovered. We had the Roaring Twenties.
Much love and stay safe.

It is a good thing, dear Micheline, that you could get vaccination as you wanted. I do hope you feel fine, so do have a real rest – with books !
It is not a real good joke, what your neighbours did, and you were right to call the police.
Amitiés 🙂

I can’t believe I was vaccinated. It happened in less than twenty-four hours. The beauty is receiving a personal letter and being escorted through the entire process. When a person telephones, he or she is asked all the relevant questions.
I had to phone the police. It could have been an intruder. These police officers are well trained. They knew it was a silly joke on the part of my neighbours. Je vous remercie de m’avoir écrit. Amitiés. 🙂

Its great you were vaccinated and had no side effects. I had some with the second Pfizer dose but it was more than worth it for the protection. Stay safe!

I am also very glad I was vaccinated and that I was walked through the process. If matters are not dealt with swiftly, variants will develop. Obviously, the government is investing a great deal of money into vaccinating everyone rapidly. But the death toll has been horrific. Further deaths must be prevented.
I have not experienced side effects. I may after the second injection. But I agree with you being vaccinated is worth a little pain. The alternative will lead to further deaths.

That bell-ringing was certainly no joke. Very impressive vaccination progress.

That bell-ringing was malicious and given that I may have let in a perfect stranger, I had to phone the police. I doubt that it will happen again. The police figured everything out, and they obviously contacted management. In my opinion, Sherbrooke has an élite police corps. After asking a few questions, they knew that I had been the target.
The progress is rapid. In Quebec, every citizen receives a personal letter and is given a telephone number and an email address. One is then walked through the process down to being helped into a cab. I was vaccinated one day after I phoned. The coronavirus is so aggressive and the vaccination process has to be rapid. I hope matters go as well in every province. Countries must hire a small army, or more will die. I hope every country will hire a small army. Stay safe, they will soon be at your door.

So you have been totally at home? Otherwise I also have been but I have visited at grocerys once or two in week (and worked little bit…) I have ordered food too (last spring and lately again) but nicotin and alcohol can’t be ordered home here in Finland. Don’t ask me why…

Yes, I have been totally alone, except for about an hour, for an entire year. A dear friend, a woman, visited once a week, if possible. We both wore masks. I bought a bottle of wine every week. In this province of Canada, wine and beer are sold in grocery stores, but I don’t know where nicotine is sold. People cannot smoke in public places. When I lived in other areas of Canada, wine could not be bought in a grocery store. These cultural differences are fascinating, but we are all the same. I do wish you the very best and I thank you for writing.

In theory, this is what happens. One gets a letter and makes an appointment. I was seen the day after I phoned, which, could be luck. But everyone receives the vaccine. AstraZeneca will no be used for persons under 55. I do not know what the government will use. Moreover, anti-mask and anti-vaccine protesters are a problem. They have or may cause a disturbance. There are a few policemen. The police weren’t present when I was vaccinated. I apologize for the delay. My best regards.
