I apologize for not posting more frequently. First, someone is reading my posts as I write them. He or she may have the best intentions. Still, I have always worked alone. Although I have read and continue to read books and articles on Molière and insert quotations in learned articles, I usually present a significantly personal analysis of Molière.
It seems, however, that I may henceforth publish shorter posts. Last Wednesday, I tried to do some online banking. However, the company has created a new and safer version of its online tools. I followed the instructions, and a message appeared confirming that all was well. However, I could not log in.
So I phoned the company and waited for a few minutes until someone was available, but I started to cry when a young man answered. Technologies are a genuine obstacle, and technical problems may trigger a vulnerability. At any rate, within a few minutes, two large policemen were inside my apartment. I put on my mask, and we spoke.
I mentioned that my cat had died on 29 November 2019 and that it would soon be a year since he died. Moreover, I had been inside my apartment since March, avoiding the coronavirus. As well, in the space of three years, I had failed to settle in my apartment. Finally, Sherbrooke is now a red zone. One cannot call a carpenter, until a degree of safety has been reached. Who would help during a pandemic?
One of the policemen suggested I adopt a cat, and one offered to remove a heavy box from the hallway. They were good persons. I thanked them because I felt much better. It had been an accident.
One returns to life as usual, a narrower life because of Covid-19, but life.
However, I reflected that in the days of the coronavirus, if a citizen of Sherbrooke, Quebec, feels distraught, his or her best help could be the police. They are available twenty-four hours a day and they make house calls.
Love to everyone 💕

I’m sorry it’s been a challenge for the move to Sherbrooke. Its always heartening to hear of the good experiences with the police force and Sherbrooke has some really good folks. Its been a challenge for much of my family this year in Sherbrooke in this terrible year of the Covid.

Mark, Covid-19 is terrible. We are not living as we used to live. We are behind masks, and one can get lonely and not realize it. The young man from the bank called the police, and it turned into a good experience. Covid is hard on everyone, including those who follow all the rules and may therefore be spared. These two policemen were good persons and very sensible. Thank you for writing. 🙂
P.S. I am learning to use the block editor.

Hi Micheline,
We have been out of touch for far too long.
I have sold my house and moved to Waterloo Ontario to be nearer to Mara. I have rented an apartment and live there with a very affectionate orange cat, Chester.
If you reply to this email, we can write or exchange phone numbers and talk. I too am somewhat isolated. I see Mara twice a week, but only outdoors. She is running her vet clinic and has exposure to the public. She protects me by distancing and keeping our visits outdoors.
I hope this email reaches you.
Love,
Marilyn

I was distressed to read your account, but relieved at seeing someone come to your help, yes this year of 2020 has been so far a trial year, for all of us, but believe we will be back to a relative normalcy, by the first two or three months of 2021, God willing.
Best wishes to you Micheline. 🙂

Thank you for writing. This has been a terrible year. I think we have all been touched and do not even know. My little accident was a surprise. The young man at the bank phoned the police, which is the best thing he could do. They were very kind. When they left, I was feeling better. The premier of Quebec called in the military and the young man at the bank called the police. This is not a normal year. Let’s hope the vaccine will be distributed quickly.
Best wishes. 🙂

Officers everywhere have a different attitude due to culture, I guess, and they often face society’s negative hand. Still, I always appreciate an account of them simply being present even for ordinary things as everyday heroes. And we’ve lost quite a few cats this year alone while the mother cat is left to watch the death of all her children over the years. My mother cried for the last one as he was a true comfort in the house, but there’s a new kitten, and well, unfortunately, one simply has to clench fist and heart and move on.

I owe a debt to these police officers. They knew what to do in this kind of situation. One toured the apartment to make sure it was safe. They let me go and get the compulsory mask, and they listened carefully. I miss my cat. I had been isolated far too long, and I have not finished settling in my apartment. So they suggested I adopt another cat, and one offered to clear the hallway. I will finish settling in when the presence of others is not a danger. We are asked not to congregate. Their visit picked me up sufficiently. I am myself again and have returned to my work. They are trained to handle several cases, and it showed. It’s a story people should know. I thank you for understanding and for writing to me.

Somehow they are alive. Flowers always come back. One puts the bulb in the refrigerator and after a few months, it’s ready to grow. It’s life eternal.
