The music of Smetana, Vltava (The Moldau), in particular, is extremely moving. He loved his land, but not in narrow nationalistic terms. We can all understand his love for that beautiful river and its bridges. When I hear this music I think of Henrietta Jelinek. She was my best friend at St. Ann’s Academy, in Victoria. She and Anka, from Cologne. It all happened in another life; our school and behind the school, a park, the sea, the Mountains. Take care, Micheline
