This is not a post, it is a mere footnote.
President Obama cannot give in to a call for negotiations from extremist Republicans. If he does, his credibility will be adversely affected. This is, I believe, the most important moment in his presidency so far. Not only is he being blackmailed, but so is the entire nation. If there is any way of communicating with him, please encourage him. It may help if he and his opponents saw “Cheers Obama” signs or something to that effect.
It would also be my view that, at this point, President Obama should not enter a room unless the room has been searched as well as everyone entering the room. I doubt that he is at risk, but why take chances? When right-wing Republicans cause a shutdown of the Government, one has to be cautious, not paranoid, that’s extremism, just cautious! What Æsop would teach.
Love to all of you.

“Wind from the Sea” is a favorite of mine.
And, I agree completely with your text.

“Wind from the Sea” is an artwork of great beauty. It’s alive because of the wind. Andrew Wyeth painted lovely windows, from both the outside and the inside.
This is a difficult moment in Barack Obama’s presidency. The Affordable Care Act has to stay and cannot cover less than it covers. And given that Americans can bear arms, he must be protected.
Take care Barbara and thank you for your support.

I was reading today that all the research work in Antarctica is at risk with this shutdown; programmes that have taken months to set up may not happen. That is only one small part of a much bigger problem, of course, but everyone, world wide, is affected by this political nonsense.

I am glad the government shutdown occurred because of hardline Republicans. It is very serious, very disruptive and very revealing. It tells how much the Republicans dislike President Obama and to what extent they do not understand that the Affordable Care Act will benefit rather than harm Americans. However, the very wealthy do not want to pay their fair share of taxes. The Republicans do not want to negotiate; they want to torpedo the Affordable Care Act and hope the US will be in default when it must raise the debt ceiling. The Chinese can tell that right-wing or extremist Republicans are blackmailing President Obama, just as we can and a large number of Americans can tell. At the moment, the US is paralyzed and it is best for President Obama to stay out of harm’s way.
We have universal health care in Canada and it doesn’t hurt us. Yesterday my doctor himself, not a secretary, phoned me to give me the results of tests and he then phoned the pharmacy so they would supply me with the medication I needed. In no way is that neglect. We think we are privileged. Gallivanta, I cannot believe what is going on. Take care, Micheline

That is a good point, Micheline. I don’t know any country that has been harmed by universal health care, either. What is harming us here in NZ is the constant chipping away at our universal health care.

No, countries are not hurt by universal health care. Occasionally, the government chips away here as it does in NZ, but very little. We have accepted to raise taxes rather than lose our universal healthcare. The city where I live has a huge medical school. So interns help doctors, but they are carefully supervised. Moreover, we use nurses. Doctors need not take the wax out of your ears. Nurses and technicians phone patients when it’s time for a test. My doctor is a professor of medicine and I see him once a month. I can also phone him between visits. So I can’t complain. I also have an affordable private insurance for dental care and glasses if I need glasses and for a private room if I ever had to be hospitalized. We do not understand why there is a shutdown of the government in the US. Dear Gallivanta, I thank you for writing. I hope you are well.

I am suffering with allergies at the moment but nothing that needs a doctor or nurse. I see there may be some movement on the American situation. Fingers crossed 🙂

I’m so glad that drama is over. It didn’t seem logical not to raise the debt ceiling, but holding the world captive for 16 days was ridiculous.
Allergies are terrible. Fortunately, I have none. What a blessing.
Take care Gallivanta.
