That was wonderful, Micheline.
I have mopped my floors (which look sparkling clean) whilst enjoying the narrative and history of an incredible composer… Beautiful listening; Thank You…
Carolyn, I had not heard about this composer until I started looking for royals who were composers. He was Marie-Antoinette’s teacher. He is a marvellous composer. I can see exactly how he influenced Mozart. I can just see them playing for one another and talking. I hope Saint-George now enters the textbooks. I have studied musicology but he was never mentioned. That might have changed. It is so sad he did not flee when Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette were arrested. The Prince of Wales, George IV, was a personal friend and admirer. Unfortunately, we cannot rewrite history. He left some very fine music. My kindest regards, Micheline
Fascinating; I agree.
He certainly left some very fine music, as you mentioned.
I’m sure there must be many, such as he, who have not been given their full due in history’s records. However, Micheline; you are a part of that restoration today. Well done to you..
Carolyn,
A lot of fine musicians and artists are not mentioned in textbooks. Louis XIII & Frederick the Great were composers. So was Marie-Antoinette, in a humbler way. However, Saint-George was a major star, both as a musician and as an athlete. I suppose one could feel guilty, but why not simply remember them, restore them, celebrate them. Their day has come. Thank you Carolyn. Best regards, Micheline
